STS-89

STS-89 was a Space Shuttle Endeavour mission and the eighth Shuttle-Mir docking flight. Terrence Wilcutt commanded the mission, Joe Edwards served as pilot, and Bonnie Dunbar, James Reilly, Michael Anderson, Salizhan Sharipov, Andrew Thomas, and David Wolf are linked as the mission crew. Endeavour launched from Kennedy Space Center's Pad 39A on January 22, 1998 and docked with Mir on January 24. The flight exchanged long-duration U.S. Mir residents, with Andrew Thomas transferring to Mir and David Wolf returning to Endeavour after his Mir increment. NASA reports that the crews transferred more than 8,000 pounds of equipment, logistics hardware, and water between Endeavour and Mir during docked operations. The mission also carried Sharipov as the Russian Space Agency mission specialist, reflecting the operational partnership that Shuttle-Mir used to prepare for International Space Station work. Endeavour undocked on January 29 and landed at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility on January 31 after 8 days, 19 hours, 46 minutes, and 54 seconds in orbit.
