STS-94 was NASA's reflight of the Microgravity Science Laboratory 1 mission after STS-83 ended early. Columbia launched again from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A on July 1, 1997 with the same orbiter, crew, and payloads. The crew worked around the clock in two shifts using the Spacelab module as a research platform. NASA's mission summary describes investigations in combustion, biotechnology, materials processing, fluids, protein crystal growth, and experiment-rack operations that also supported future International Space Station laboratory work. Columbia landed at Kennedy Space Center on July 17, 1997 after more than fifteen days in orbit. The mission completed the science objectives that STS-83 could only begin and became a rare full reflight of a Shuttle mission with the same vehicle, crew, and payload.
