- NASA's WISE mission mapped the infrared sky before the telescope was hibernated in 2011. The same spacecraft resumed observations in 2013 as NEOWISE, repeatedly surveying asteroids and comets for planetary defense until orbital decay forced retirement in 2024.

- Success. WISE completed two full-sky infrared scans and cataloged roughly three-quarters of a billion objects. By February 2024, NEOWISE had made more than 1.5 million infrared measurements of 43,926 solar-system objects, including 1,571 near-Earth objects and 282 comets. NASA ended the survey and safely decommissioned the spacecraft before atmospheric reentry.
