Zond 3
Zond 3 was the Soviet Union's 1965 lunar-flyby mission to test a deep-space probe's systems and photograph the Moon's far side. After a 33-hour translunar flight, the spacecraft passed 9,220 kilometres from the Moon and transmitted its stored images to Earth while continuing into heliocentric space.

- Zond 3 was the Soviet Union's 1965 lunar-flyby mission to test a deep-space probe's systems and photograph the Moon's far side. After a 33-hour translunar flight, the spacecraft passed 9,220 kilometres from the Moon and transmitted its stored images to Earth while continuing into heliocentric space.
- Outcome
- Zond 3 successfully returned twenty-five visual and three ultraviolet lunar images, covering the remaining unmapped portion of the far side, and demonstrated solar and stellar attitude control. Later communications continued at increasing distance before last contact in early March 1966.
