American Astronomical Society

The American Astronomical Society (AAS) is a nonprofit scientific society founded in 1899 to advance astronomy and closely related sciences. Its international membership spans professional astronomers, educators, students, amateurs, physicists, planetary scientists, solar physicists, geologists, engineers, and other researchers across the astronomical sciences. The AAS convenes major scientific meetings, owns and operates peer-reviewed open-access journals, supports six specialist divisions, grants and prizes, education, mentoring, careers, public outreach, science policy, and professional standards, and helps connect astronomical research with space missions, observatories, data systems, and the wider public.
