American Rocket Society (ARS)

The American Rocket Society (ARS) was a U.S. professional and experimental rocketry society active from 1930 to 1963. Founded in New York City as the American Interplanetary Society and renamed in 1934, it moved from public advocacy and small liquid-propellant rocket tests into technical publications, specialist committees, national meetings, professional standards, and influential studies supporting satellites and spaceflight. ARS ceased as an independent organization in 1963 when it merged with the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences to form AIAA.
