Asociación de Aficionados a la Astronomía

The Asociación de Aficionados a la Astronomía (AAA) is a Uruguayan nonprofit civil society for amateur astronomy, observing, scientific education, and public outreach. Founded on 16 October 1952 to unite astronomy enthusiasts across the country, it has maintained its headquarters at Montevideo's municipal planetarium since the planetarium's early years while remaining a legally and operationally distinct member organization. AAA organizes observing trips, star parties, introductory courses, technical and public lectures, telescope work, a specialist library, publications, and collaboration with professional and public astronomy institutions. It remains active in 2026 through nationwide observing activity and public programs on lunar exploration, planetary defense, asteroids, and the night sky.
