Astronomical Society of India

The Astronomical Society of India (ASI), also named Bharatiya Jyotirvignyana Parishad in its founding memorandum, is India’s national professional society for astronomy, astrophysics, and related sciences. Established in 1972 as a registered society, it connects researchers, students, educational institutions, and astronomical organizations across the country. ASI holds an annual scientific meeting and specialist symposia, supports coordinated research and international exchange, recognizes scientific achievement, co-publishes the Journal of Astrophysics and Astronomy, develops national vision and policy material for astronomy, and runs public outreach, education, heritage, gender-equity, and student programs. It remains active through its 44th Annual Meeting and scientific, AstroSat, outreach, and education activities in 2026.
