Astronomical Society of the Pacific

The Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), also known as the Astro Society, is an international nonprofit scientific and educational organization founded in San Francisco in 1889. It advances public understanding and appreciation of astronomy by training formal and informal educators, supporting amateur-astronomy networks, connecting scientists with communities, publishing research and educational material, and recognizing achievement in astronomy, astrophysics, space science, instrumentation, teaching, and public outreach. Its programs include the NASA-supported Night Sky Network, Project ASTRO, educator professional development, awards, Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the ASP Conference Series, and Mercury magazine.
