DarkSky International

DarkSky International, formerly the International Dark-Sky Association, is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1988 to protect the nighttime environment and ensure that present and future generations can experience dark skies. From its Tucson headquarters it combines public policy, education, advocacy, community science, and international standards: it certifies and helps conserve International Dark Sky Places, operates the DarkSky Approved Lighting program, and supports a global network of more than 60 chapters, 4,000 advocates, and delegates in more than 20 countries. Its work protects the observational environment on which astronomy and space science depend while reducing harmful light pollution for communities and ecosystems.
