Founded in 1960 and recognized by the United Nations in 1996, the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) is an independent international community of astronautics experts dedicated to peaceful space development. With roughly 1,200 Members and Corresponding Members from 77 countries, its four scientific sections and six commissions advance space research, technology, operations, policy, law, economics, and society through studies, position papers, conferences, publications, and cooperation with agencies, industry, academia, and national academies. The Academy publishes the peer-reviewed journal Acta Astronautica and supports international space-science and astronautics collaboration.
