The Korean Astronomical Society

The Korean Astronomical Society (KAS; 한국천문학회) is the Republic of Korea’s incorporated professional association for advancing astronomy, its applications, and public understanding. Founded in 1965, it provides a national forum for astronomers, students, educators, research institutions, and supporting organizations. KAS holds major scientific meetings each spring and autumn, publishes the Journal of the Korean Astronomical Society and Publications of the Korean Astronomical Society, supports international scientific exchange, recognizes research through professional awards, develops Korean astronomical terminology and reference resources, contributes to astronomy education and the national astronomy olympiad, and advises on science and technology. It remains active through its 113th Spring Meeting and announced Fall Meeting in 2026, current publications, workshops, surveys, outreach, and professional programs.
