Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) is a nonprofit educational organization that designs, builds, supports, and promotes amateur-radio satellites and space-communications experiments. Incorporated in the District of Columbia in 1969 to continue the pioneering work of Project OSCAR, it mobilizes volunteers in engineering, software, operations, education, and public engagement. AMSAT develops spacecraft and payloads, coordinates launches and ground operations, publishes orbital and technical information, supports experimentation and emergency communications, and helps students, radio amateurs, and partner organizations learn through direct participation in space systems.
