Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand

The Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ) is New Zealand’s incorporated national association for amateur and professional astronomy. Founded in 1920 as the New Zealand Astronomical Society, incorporated in 1924, and granted its present royal title in 1946, it promotes astronomical knowledge through observing and research programs, specialist sections, affiliated local societies, conferences, lectures, publications, education, and public outreach. RASNZ publishes the quarterly Southern Stars journal and a monthly newsletter, coordinates work in astrophotography, comets, variable stars, space weather, history, and other fields, and supports secondary students through its Students With A Passion for Astronomy conference scholarship. It has been a member body of Royal Society Te Apārangi since 1967.
