The Sociedade Astronômica Brasileira (SAB) is Brazil’s national nonprofit professional society for astronomy and astrophysics. Founded by the Brazilian astronomical community in 1974, it represents and connects researchers, supports teaching and scientific freedom, promotes research and professional development, convenes annual and specialist meetings, publishes scientific and educational material, and maintains national and international institutional links. SAB also contributes to national astronomy policy, represents Brazilian astronomy in international coordination through its Brazilian Astronomy Commission, and helps organize the Brazilian Astronomy and Astronautics Olympiad and Brazilian Rocket Olympiad with the Brazilian Space Agency.
