Verein für Raumschiffahrt (VfR)

The Verein für Raumschiffahrt (VfR), or Society for Space Travel, was a German spaceflight-advocacy and experimental-rocketry association founded in Breslau in 1927. It united writers, engineers, and researchers including Johannes Winkler, Max Valier, Willy Ley, Hermann Oberth, and Wernher von Braun; published and promoted serious discussion of space travel; and from 1930 operated liquid-propellant rocket experiments at the Raketenflugplatz Berlin. The society was suppressed and ceased operating by 1934 as rocketry research was concentrated under the Nazi military state.
