The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) is an international nonprofit, charitable, educational, and technical society dedicated to advancing vertical-flight science and engineering. Founded in 1943 as the American Helicopter Society, it provides a neutral forum for engineers, scientists, operators, manufacturers, universities, and public agencies working on helicopters, rotorcraft, powered lift, electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft, and related systems. VFS advances the field through peer-reviewed research, technical committees, conferences, publications, education, scholarships, awards, safety and policy initiatives, and preservation of vertical-flight history.
