ACECHEM (Atmospheric Composition Explorer for CHEMistry and climate interaction) was an early ESA Earth Explorer candidate concept for studying the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere as a coupled chemical, dynamical and radiative system. It targeted climate-chemistry feedbacks, stratosphere-troposphere exchange, stratospheric change and pollution impacts, using dedicated limb-sounding millimetre-wave and mid-infrared spectrometers plus a limb-viewing cloud imager in formation with MetOp. ESA documents ACECHEM as a research concept rather than an implemented programme.
