ESA's Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems programme supports satellite-communications innovation from early research to market-ready products and services, strengthening European and Canadian industry. Its strategic lines address selected technology domains, while generic lines provide broader support for industrial competitiveness, future preparation, technologies, and products. Partnership projects share investment risks with private companies and satellite operators to develop major systems and services. The programme therefore supports a portfolio of commercial and societal capabilities rather than one communications satellite or constellation.
