eXtra Performance WING

Airbus UpNext’s eXtra Performance WING project develops adaptive wing technologies on a modified Cessna Citation VII platform. Its research combines gust sensing, rapidly deploying spoilers, multifunctional trailing edges and a semi-aeroelastic wing hinge to explore control of wing shape and loads. Airbus described the project’s launch in September 2021. A July 2026 update said demonstrator assembly was nearing completion and remotely piloted flight was planned later that year. Those flights remain planned in this record; the design’s efficiency benefits are research goals.
