Airbus’ Wing of Tomorrow research and technology programme develops longer, lighter wings and the manufacturing methods needed to produce them. It combines aerodynamic design with investigations of composite manufacturing, assembly rates and cost. Airbus reported three full-size ground demonstrators before announcing a new flight-test phase in July 2026. That phase plans to evaluate wing extensions on an A321neo to study high-span configurations and aircraft handling. The planned flight campaign is distinct from the ground demonstrators already built and does not establish that those flights have occurred.
