ESA programme that developed and operated five Automated Transfer Vehicles to supply the International Space Station between 2008 and 2015. The vehicles delivered more than 31,500 kilograms of supplies and provided orbit boosts and debris-avoidance manoeuvres. Approved for development in October 1995, with development beginning in 1996, ATV served as a European contribution toward ISS operating costs. Missions were controlled by a joint ESA–CNES team in Toulouse. The programme concluded with the controlled reentry of Georges Lemaître on 15 February 2015; its engineering experience subsequently supported development of the European Service Module for Orion.
