China–Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Programme

The China–Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Programme (CBERS) is a continuing bilateral Earth-observation effort established in 1988 to develop remote-sensing satellites and their applications. Its initial CBERS-1 and CBERS-2 agreement expanded to CBERS-2B, CBERS-3 and CBERS-4, followed by CBERS-4A. The programme connects spacecraft development with image reception, processing and use in environmental and natural-resource monitoring. In Brazil, CBERS imagery supports deforestation and fire monitoring, water-resource assessment, agriculture, urban growth and land-use analysis, including the PRODES and DETER monitoring systems. INPE provides the Brazilian programme information and satellite-image access.
