Chandrayaan Programme

India's ISRO-led lunar exploration programme encompasses successive Chandrayaan missions for remote observation and surface investigation. The first three missions flew in 2008, 2019, and 2023, developing experience with lunar orbiters, landers, and rovers. Chandrayaan-4, approved by India's Union Cabinet in September 2024, is intended to collect lunar samples and return them to Earth for laboratory study. Sample return is a planned extension of the programme, separate from the achievements of its earlier flights.
