Chemical Heat Integrated Power Source (CHIPS) for Deep Space Power Systems (CHIPS)

Canceled NASA Game Changing Development project led by Glenn Research Center to design and develop a combined heat and power source for deep-space systems. CHIPS pursued exothermic chemical reactions to provide high-quality heat for thermal management and electrical power for missions lasting days to weeks, targeting a lower-cost alternative to radioisotope heat sources while supporting future lunar and deep-space operations.
