EGPM Program
EGPM (European contribution to the Global Precipitation Measurement mission) was an ESA Earth Explorer Opportunity concept selected for Phase-A feasibility study in 2002. It would contribute a near-polar satellite with microwave precipitation instruments to improve global rainfall measurement, especially light rain and snowfall over land and high latitudes, strengthen storm monitoring and flash-flood warnings, and advance water-cycle and climate research. ESA later recommended that EGPM be pursued within the Earth Watch framework; the concept remains a documented research programme rather than an implemented mission.
