Exploring Electrostatic Regolith Interactions in Low-gravity

Completed NASA Flight Opportunities project led by the University of Central Florida to characterize electrostatic charging and particle motion of lunar regolith in low gravity. The Electrostatic Regolith Interaction Experiment (ERIE) combines dust motion chambers, regolith simulant, tribocharging sensors, and electric fields to refine models relevant to lunar mobility, landing and plume effects, in-situ resource utilization, and dust safety. Flight tests in 2022 and 2023 advanced the technology from TRL 4 toward TRL 7.
