Exploring Hell: Avoiding Obstacles on a Clockwork Rover

NASA TechPort describes this completed Prizes, Challenges, and Crowdsourcing project as a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory challenge to design a mechanical obstacle-avoidance sensor for the wind-powered Automaton Rover for Extreme Environments (AREE) concept. The 2019–2020 challenge sought sensors that could detect rocks, crevices, and inclines in Venus conditions without vulnerable electronics and received 572 submissions from more than 80 countries.
