Gaia Program

ESA's Gaia space astrometry mission created the largest and most precise three-dimensional map of the Milky Way by measuring the positions, distances, motions, brightness, temperatures, and compositions of nearly two billion stars and other objects. Launched on 19 December 2013, science observations ended on 15 January 2025 and spacecraft operations concluded on 27 March 2025, while final data releases remain in preparation.
