GOES-R Series Program

The GOES-R Series Program is a NOAA–NASA partnership for a four-spacecraft geostationary environmental-monitoring system and its ground infrastructure. NASA builds and launches the satellites for NOAA, which operates them and distributes their data. The series combines Earth imagery and atmospheric measurements with lightning mapping and solar and space-environment observations, supporting forecasts and severe-weather warnings. Satellites receive letter designations during development and numeric GOES names after reaching geostationary orbit; the programme encompasses their development, deployment, operations, and data services.
