Completed NASA Game Changing Development project that developed a compact, high-efficiency, self-cleaning filter for Martian atmospheric dust. The two-stage concept combines aerodynamic and mechanical separation of larger particles with electrostatic separation of fines, targeting removal of more than 99 percent of particles up to 10 micrometers from 3 to 6 kg per hour of Martian gas for oxygen-generation and other equipment. The prototype demonstrated the filter concept, while technical and test-access challenges limited a clear path to further maturation.
