Mars Express Programme

The European Space Agency’s Mars Express Programme is Europe’s first mission to Mars and remains in operation around the planet. Launched on June 2, 2003, the orbiter studies Mars’s atmosphere, climate, geology, mineralogy, subsurface, and moons Phobos and Deimos, and originally carried the Beagle 2 lander. NASA participates through instrument teams and the MARSIS radar developed with the Italian Space Agency.
