Nitrosat Program

ESA Earth Explorer 11 candidate selected in June 2021 for pre-feasibility study, Nitrosat would measure atmospheric nitrogen dioxide and ammonia to improve understanding of air pollution, aerosol formation, climate interactions and environmental policy. ESA later reported that Nitrosat was not selected for the next development phase alongside CAIRT and WIVERN, while noting that its assessment established scientific foundations that could unlock future nitrogen-cycle observations.
