NASA’s Pioneer 8 Program was a heliocentric interplanetary-space mission launched on 13 December 1967 to measure magnetic fields, plasma, cosmic rays, and cosmic dust. Its observations were correlated with the other Pioneer solar orbiters and supplied solar-weather information that helped protect Apollo crews; NASA’s historical account records last contact in June 2001.
