PLATO Program

ESA’s PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is a planned Cosmic Vision observatory that will use 26 cameras to discover and characterise terrestrial planets, including worlds in habitable-zone orbits around Sun-like stars, while measuring the properties of their host stars. Spacecraft construction was completed in 2025 and final testing is underway for the planned 2027 launch.
