Tianwen-2 Program

Tianwen-2 is China’s first asteroid sample-return and main-belt-comet exploration program under the Tianwen Planetary Exploration Program. Launched on 29 May 2025, the probe is designed to collect samples from near-Earth asteroid 2016 HO3 and continue to explore main-belt comet 311P; CNSA reported in July 2026 that Tianwen-2 had reached its asteroid target and begun close-range scientific exploration.
