Pratt & Whitney JT8D family
Pratt & Whitney JT8D is a low-bypass turbofan family introduced on the Boeing 727-100 in 1964. Its eight standard models cover 14,000–17,000 lb of thrust, while the JT8D-200 series delivers 18,500–21,700 lb for the McDonnell Douglas MD-80; more than 14,750 engines have flown and about 2,400 remain in use. The family powered Boeing 727 and 737-100/-200, Douglas DC-9, Aerospatiale Caravelle, Dassault Mercure, Kawasaki C-1, and E-8 JSTARS, and provides the licensed basis for Sweden’s RM8 adaptation.
