LE-5B-3

LE-5B-3 is H3’s restartable liquid-hydrogen/liquid-oxygen second-stage engine, developed from LE-5B-2. Mixer and hydrogen-turbine changes improve efficiency and operating life. JAXA lists 137 kN vacuum thrust, 448 s vacuum specific impulse, approximately 300 kg mass, 2.8 m length and 1.690 m maximum diameter. Its published operating envelope includes 740 seconds at full thrust, 250 seconds in idle mode and three ignitions; these are engine capabilities rather than one mandatory mission sequence.
