Information

Explore history, facts, modules, and life on board Salyut 7.

Salyut 7

The last Salyut station and a proving ground for long-duration Soviet orbital operations.

Salyut 7 was a near twin of Salyut 6 with two docking ports for Soyuz and Progress operations. It hosted six long-duration crews, several international visiting missions, the first French spaceflight, Svetlana Savitskaya's historic EVA, and the difficult Soyuz T-13 repair mission after the uncrewed station lost power in 1985.

Operations

1982-1991

Launched in 1982, last staffed in 1986, and reentered over Argentina in 1991.

Crews

10 crews

NASA's Russian space station history lists ten cosmonaut crews, including six long-duration crews.

Program role

Bridge to Mir

Salyut 7 used two docking ports, Progress resupply, and TKS-derived modules that helped mature the path toward modular stations.
