Aerospace and Rocket Engineering Society (ARES)
Aerospace and Rocket Engineering Society (ARES) is the University of Melbourne student team founded in 2019, developing high-powered scientific rockets, avionics, telemetry, recovery systems, air brakes and propulsion. Its 2024 Florence rocket reached 29,782 ft and placed second in the 30,000-foot commercial-motor category. Lemaire reached 28,460 ft at IREC 2025, placing fifth in that category despite a recovery failure and airframe damage. The 2025–2027 Odyssey project targets the team’s first entirely student-developed rocket, including its Genesis hybrid engine, side-hatch deployment and custom telemetry, with a 10,000-foot IREC 2027 objective.
