Akronauts Rocket Design Team

Akronauts Rocket Design Team is a University of Akron student rocketry organization founded in 2014. Students develop high-powered rockets through propulsion, avionics, structures, flight simulation and recovery work. On 26 March 2026 the team statically tested its largest solid rocket motor to date at Friends of Amateur Rocketry in Mojave, California. The eight-inch motor achieved a Q11114 classification, a 9.33-second burn and approximately 3,426 lbf peak thrust. Development began in autumn 2025 and included structural and thermal analysis, propellant production, test-stand upgrades and an integrated readiness rehearsal.
