GhanaSat-1 Team

Historically important university satellite team behind GhanaSat-1, Ghana’s first satellite. Three Ghanaian students developed the 1U CubeSat through Kyushu Institute of Technology’s BIRDS project with All Nations University sponsorship, building experience across mission design, testing, Earth imaging, communications, and operations. The spacecraft travelled to the International Space Station on Dragon CRS-11 in June 2017 and was deployed from Kibo on July 7 with the other four BIRDS-1 satellites. The programme’s subsequent orbital-decay analysis estimated GhanaSat-1’s reentry as May 22, 2019. The team represents the historical first-satellite project; continuing institutional satellite research belongs to ANU’s Space Systems Technology Laboratory.
