LEEM-UPM (Laboratorio para la Experimentación en Espacio y Microgravedad) is the student rocketry association of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid’s School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering (ETSIAE). Its members develop rockets, propulsion, flight electronics and scientific experiments through design, simulation, manufacturing and testing. More than 60 students contributed to ASPID, integrating the student-developed Timanfaya solid motor and active airbrakes. At EuRoC 2026, ASPID reached 3,132 metres and won the Solid 3K Flight Award. It was recovered nearly intact, although simultaneous deployment of both parachutes at apogee lengthened the descent. ASPID incorporated lessons from URSA, the team’s 2024 EuRoC entry, including internal architecture, assembly and system reliability.
