Balloon Payload Program
The University of Maryland student Balloon Payload Program (BPP), also known as UMD Nearspace, flies high-altitude balloons carrying payloads for scientific data collection and engineering tests. The program averages three to four launches per semester, develops tracking, atmospheric sensing, live video, power collection, heat-shield, and attitude-control systems, and invites students to work in mechanical design, software, electronics, and launch operations.
