Federal University of Technology Akure

Federal University of Technology Akure is a Nigerian public technology university whose Centre for Space Research and Applications supports satellite technology, remote sensing, GIS, and CubeSat research. With the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education – English, it offers the joint full-time Master of Technology in Space Science and Technology in four official options. FUTA collaborated with NASRDA and Kyushu Institute of Technology on Nigeria EduSat-1, a 1U CubeSat in the five-satellite BIRDS-1 cohort. The spacecraft travelled aboard Dragon CRS-11 on June 3, 2017 UTC and was deployed from Kibo on July 7. NASRDA identifies FUTA’s Ibukun Adebolu as Nigeria’s representative on the Kyutech team and describes the mission as a demonstration of satellite technology and domestic engineering capability.
