The Airbus A400M Atlas is a four-engine turboprop military airlifter designed to combine strategic range and payload with tactical access to short or unprepared airfields. Its large cargo hold can carry personnel, relief supplies, vehicles, helicopters, or outsized loads, while aerial-delivery, medical-evacuation, and air-to-air-refueling equipment let one family cover missions formerly divided among several aircraft classes. It was developed for a multinational group of European launch nations and entered operational service in the 2010s.
