The Antonov An-225 Mriya was a six-engine super-heavy transport design developed to carry the Buran orbiter and Energiya launch-vehicle components. Derived from the An-124, it used a longer fuselage, greater wingspan, twin tail, and external-load attachment points, then entered commercial service for exceptionally heavy and outsized cargo. Only one An-225 was completed and flown; that aircraft became a globally recognized record-setting heavy-lift platform before its destruction at Hostomel in 2022.
