Atlas B launch vehicle
Atlas B was the three-engine, sustainer-equipped development version of the Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile. Atlas 10B was adapted for Project SCORE and, on 1958-12-18, became the first Atlas to reach orbit; most of the missile itself served as the communications-satellite platform.
