Atlas IIA upgraded the Atlas II with a stretched Centaur IIA upper stage and two uprated RL10A-4 engines. Twenty-three vehicles flew successfully from Intelsat K in June 1992 through NASA's TDRS-J in December 2002, supporting commercial communications, Earth science, weather, and U.S. national-security missions without a launch failure.
