Convair 880 Golden Arrow Four-Engine Jet Airliner Family
The Convair 880 was a fast, narrow-body four-engine jet airliner developed by Convair's General Dynamics division to challenge the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. First flown in 1959, it traded cabin capacity and operating economy for speed and served airlines including Delta, TWA, Japan Airlines, Swissair, and Cathay Pacific. Only 65 aircraft were delivered before the short production run ended, but the design remains a notable example of the early commercial jet race.
